Kaufmann

GERMANY - Rheingau

Weingut Kaufmann is located in the heart of the Rheingau around Hattenheim am Rhein, one of Germany’s most renowned wine regions, and is part of the VDP classification. Since 2014, Eva Raps and Urban Kaufmann have been steering the estate, a remarkable duo that opened a new chapter in the history of this historic winery.

Their philosophy is entirely rooted in biodynamics, with an emphasis on natural cycles, vital soils, and minimal intervention in the cellar. In 2017, they received Demeter certification, recognition of their consistent approach in the vineyard.

The vineyards lie on top terroirs with limestone, slate, and loess soils, ideal for refined, mineral-driven wines. The focus is on Riesling, Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), and Chardonnay, mainly in a dry style characterized by precision, freshness, and elegance.

Eva and Urban combine craftsmanship with individuality: Riesling with restrained fruit and linear acidity, Pinot Noir with Burgundian finesse. Their backgrounds – VDP leadership and Swiss cheese production – inform an exceptionally precise approach in the cellar.
